Manchester United transfer target backed to bounce back for Real Madrid

Gareth Bale has been backed to get back to his best for Real Madrid next season by team-mate Luka Modric amid rumours linking him with a transfer to Manchester United and PSG.

The Wales international hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since moving from Tottenham to Madrid for a then-world-record fee in 2013, but Modric believes much of that has been down to injury problems.

Bale missed much of last term in particular, and struggled to get going when he did make it into Zinedine Zidane’s side, though Modric isn’t worried.

There has been some talk that Real’s interest in Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe this summer could force one of the club’s current front three out, with Bale more likely than Cristiano Ronaldo or Karim Benzema to be the one who makes way.

Still, Modric hit back at claims that the former Tottenham winger isn’t entirely settled at the Bernabeu and stated his hope that he’d be at the club and showing his worth to the team next season.

‘He will do everything for the team and that is the most important thing,’ Modric said. ‘He doesn’t want to be above the team and is very humble.
