Liverpool star wants release clause in his new contract

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has asked the club to insert a release clause in his new deal if they want him to sign a new contract at the club. Can is currently in the final year of his current Liverpool contract and there is no sign of a new deal as of yet.

The Reds are worried that Serie A champions Juventus’ interest in Can could eventually get the better of him and the Anfield club cannot let that happen, especially after the Philippe Coutinho saga.

According to Liverpool Echo, Can wants to keep his future options open and hence is requesting the club to insert a release clause in his contract and Liverpool are reluctant to allow such a condition.

Liverpool, who themselves took advantage of a release clause situation in order to sign Can from Leverkusen are aware that Can’s agents will definitely be asking the club for a similar type of a contract which the Reds are unwilling to do.

Can has been one of the most consistent performers under Jurgen Klopp and with an elite European club like Juventus vying for his signature, Liverpool must ideally accept his terms by setting a humongous release clause to his new contract.
