Chelsea defender David Luiz is likely to be suspended for the Premier League champions’ next three matches after referee Michael Oliver handed out a straight red card to the Brazilian following a dangerous challenge on Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac.

The incident which happened in the 87th minute of the game saw Luiz lashing out a studs up challenge to the Arsenal defender, catching him in the shin.

Chelsea do have the full right to appeal the suspension, but it is highly unlikely that Luiz’s ban will be reduced to less than three matches.

Luiz is set to miss matches against Nottingham Forest in the league cup, Stoke City and a dangerous Manchester City side in the Premier League.

Further more astonishing is the fact that the red card David Luiz received today was his first ever red card in a total of 119 appearances that the Brazilian has made in the Premier League till date.
