Barcelona star Messi and Real Madrid icon Ronaldo have taken goalscoring to unprecedented levels over the past decade, winning trophies galore and gaining countless individual accolades.

Messi has five Ballon d’Ors to his name, claimed in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015 while Ronaldo came out on top in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016.

The Portuguese is hot favourite to win this year after he shone in Real Madrid’s Champions League and La Liga triumphs last campaign – and that would make it five awards apiece for the incredible duo.
