Barca offered their player to Liverpool

Barcelona offered midfielder Andre Gomes to Liverpool as a makeweight in their bid to sign Philippe Coutinho, according to the Daily Star.

The Catalans were widely expected to tie up a deal for the Brazilian last summer despite being turned down by Liverpool on several occasions, but eventually signed French winger Ousmane Dembele from Dortmund.

The report claims the Merseysiders had no interest in taking the Portuguese as part-payment for Coutinho, despite being interested in him in 2014 when he was with Benfica as they wanted a replacement for Lucas Leiva.

Former Valencia star has endured a tough time at the Camp Nou since joining in July 2016 for a reported €35m, with €20m in add-ons, and has even at time been jeered by his own supporters.

In the meantime, Barca chief Oscar Grau has confirmed the Catalans will be back in for Coutinho when the January transfer window opens.

“We are ready to buy Coutinho in the winter market, or any player the coaching staff requests.

“We have to forget about the price paid for Neymar last summer. After taxes we received around €188m in income and it had a direct impact of €44m on the club’s treasury,” he claimed.
