La Liga league leaders Barcelona’s defender Gerard Pique does not want his club to sign Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil as someone who will be an adjustment to their prime target, Philippe Coutinho.

The German midfielder will be out of contract at the end of this season and can leave Arsenal on a free transfer or for a cut-price in the January transfer window.

The former Real Madrid star has been linked to Manchester United in the past few weeks whereas it is being said that Barcelona are also tracking the progress of his situation at Arsenal heading into the January transfer window.

Spanish news outlet Don Balon have revealed that Pique does not want Ozil to be signed at Barcelona. The defender has told Barca transfer chiefs not to sign the former Real ace as an alternative to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

It is being said that Pique has not been impressed with Ozil’s form in the past few seasons. Additionally, Pique believes that the German will slow down Barcelona’s midfield instead of strengthening it and hence he believes Barcelona should stick with chasing Coutinho in the mid-season transfer window.
