Spanish publication Don Balon have reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Gareth Bale in the summer transfer window. The newly-crowned Premier League champions look set to make a move for the Wales international if Los Blancos sign Eden Hazard.
Bale progressed through the ranks at Southampton before subsequently establishing himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the world at Tottenham. He then moved to Real Madrid, where his career has taken off and he is now considered as one of the best players in the world.
An instrumental figure for Los Blancos, Bale has forged one of the most fearsome attacking trios of all time – the BBC – alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, with the three dominating opposition defenders unlike most over the last four years.
However, Bale’s involvement in Real Madrid’s on-field pursuits has been restricted heavily in the last two seasons with a spate of injuries keeping him sidelined for long periods. This season, the player has managed a mere 26 appearances in all competitions, but he still has a respectable tally of 9 goals and 5 assists to show for his efforts.
However, despite being such a key figure for Real Madrid since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu, it is being reported that Bale could be on his way out of the club in the summer. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the Welshman in recent weeks but now Chelsea are ready to take a decisive step to land him.
Antonio Conte is aiming to bolster the attacking options that he has at his disposal following a successful Premier League winning campaign. With Chelsea set to compete on four fronts next season, the Chelsea boss will need to beef up his squad and has, thus, set his sights on Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are eager to sign Eden Hazard in the summer, and have been heavily linked with the Belgian winger in recent months. Should the newly-crowned La Liga champions manage to land Hazard, the report suggests that Chelsea will launch the offensive for Bale.
The West London club are said to be preparing a staggering €100 million bid for Bale which, the report suggests, will be considered by Real Madrid who have been left frustrated by the player’s extended spells on the sidelines.
If Bale can manage to put his injury woes behind him, he could turn out to be a world class signing for Chelsea, as he will be able to give his best years to the Blues. It now remains to be seen if Hazard and Bale end up switching sides in the summer or if both Chelsea and Real Madrid retain the services of the players.
