MANCHESTER UNITED have made progress in their pursuit of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports. Manchester United are in the market for a new striker to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic who will be released by the club next month.Real Madrid man Alvaro Morata is reportedly Jose Mourinho’s No 1 target having worked with him previously at the Bernabeu.Sources close to the 24-year-old have told ESPN,United are making progress on a move for the former Juventus man.
And there is optimism a deal could be agreed in time for Morata to attend the Red Devil’s pre-season tour of America on July 9.
The report says personal terms should be agreed quickly as the striker is keen to move to Old Trafford.And the only sticking point will be the two clubs settling on a transfer fee for the Spain international.Morata could be forced further down the pecking order at the Bernabeu if he fails to leave this summer.
Reports in France claim Zinedine Zidane has upped the ante to sign the Monaco sensation and called him this week.
It is said Zidane has assured the 18-year-old of regular game time if he opts to sign for Real.Morata is already on the fringes at the Bernabeu and made just 14 La Liga starts last term.Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the former Juventus loanee, however, ESPN claim this is not the case.
The Premier League champions are instead said to be focussing their attention on bringing in Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
