Inter Milan have contacted Atletico Madrid regarding the transfer of central defender Jose Gimenez, say reports in Spain.
According to El Mundo Deportivo and Diario AS, the Nerazzurri are keen to remodel their defence under new Coach Luciano Spalletti with the Uruguayan a key target.
The 22-year-old is reportedly open to a move away from Los Rojiblancos due to lack of playing time – he started only 12 La Liga fixtures last season and is behind Diego Godin and Stefan Savic in Diego Simeone’s pecking order.
Gimenez is particularly keen to obtain more playing time as this season due to his willingness to nail down a place for Uruguay ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
Both reports acknowledge the difficult in any such deal due to Atleti’s reluctance to sell which has been heightened due to their failure to have their player registration ban overturned.
