The reason why Alvaro Morata is not joining Manchester United

Manchester United had an improved offer of €75m (£65.8m) rejected for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, according to the Guardian.

Jose Mourinho has ended his pursuit of the Spaniard as he hopes to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic ahead of next season, with the big Swede not awarded a new contract following his serious knee injury.

Negotiations with Real have been in progress for several weeks as United have seen two offers of €60m (£52.3m) and €70m (£60m) turned down at the start of June.

He’s valued significantly higher at €90m and reports even claim United have now moved on to trying to sign Romelu Lukaku following Madrid’s unwillingness to complete a deal.

Mourinho has grown frustrated over the lack of progress made by Ed Woodward in the summer transfer window as the club have only signed Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

The Portuguese boss claimed he would have liked his new arrivals to be on the plane for the pre-season tour, however, that doesn’t seem like a possibility because they are due to fly out for their tour of America on Sunday and club have so far struggled to find a deal that suits them.
