Former Real Madrid and Monaco player Fernando Morientes has talked for the need of Real Madrid to sign young talented player from France Ligue 1.
Will Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe join Real Madrid this summer? Los Blancos have certainly been linked with the French international.
The talented forward isn’t short of suitors and has also been heavily mentioned in connection with Paris Saint Germain and Arsenal.
If Fernando Morientes had his way Real would secure the services of Mbappe, 18.
A world record fee will be needed whoever signed the forward – as much as a fee beyond £100m is ‘difficult to digest’ Morientes knows if Real aren’t willing and able to pay what’s needed to secure Mbappe someone else will.
He told Efe, via FourFourTwo: ‘When you talk about these types of figures, it’s usually because the player has generated a certain level of expectation. If you don’t buy, another will. It’s difficult to digest, but when a player is tempted by so many clubs, it’s because he has a lot of talent.’
Morientes, a double La Liga and three times Champions League winner during his illustrious spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, knows Mbappe would come under added pressure should he join Real.
It wouldn’t simply be the fact he’s playing for the best club in the world it would also add a greater ‘weight of responsibility’ owing to the amount of money Real would pay for the forward who scored 26 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 champions last season.
Adding: ‘He is just a kid, still in the process of maturing. The weight of responsibility will be on his shoulders.’
We’re certainly talking about a lot of money but the Real legend is right, if Los Blancos don’t pay this to snap up potentially a future Ballon d’Or winner a rival, who would then benefit as a result, will.
