Man United’s midfield plan: Real Madrid midfielder next to Paul Pogba

The Mirror on Sunday have dredged up a classic transfer rumour, linking Manchester United with a possible move for Real Madrid star Toni Kroos.

Man United have been struggling in the transfer market when it’s come to recruiting a new centre-mid.

The midfield market is shrinking fast.

Tiemoue Bakayoko has joined Chelsea, Tottenham appear determined to hold onto Eric Dier, Chelsea seem to be baulking at a deal for Nemanja Matic, while links to players like Julian Weigl feel weak.

At the same time, Belgium international star Radja Nainggolan is poised to agree a new deal with Roma.

So could that mean United move for German World Cup winner Kroos?

In the past few days, stories claiming David De Gea could join Real Madrid have restarted.

That’s the starting point for the Mirror, who report the following:

Jose Mourinho has launched a Kroos missile at Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have angered Manchester United by reigniting their interest in David De Gea, just weeks after they had stated publicly that they no longer wanted to sign the Reds’ goalkeeper.

United have retaliated by demanding that German midfielder Toni Kroos should be included in any proposed deal to take De Gea to Madrid.
