Manchester City have announced the signing of Douglas Luiz from Vasco Da Gama. The 19-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Premier League giants. The fee is undisclosed but believed to be £10m.
This brings City’s spending to £130m this summer. The announcement of Luiz comes one day after they made Kyle Walker the most expensive defender of all time. Luiz arrives to far less fanfare.
A Brazil U20 international, it’s likely that he’ll spend next season away from the Etihad. It’s rumoured that he’ll spend a campaign on loan at Girona CF in Spain. City will announce their plans for Luiz soon.
The aforementioned signing of Walker was ridiculed by rival fans who baulked at the fee City paid.
