La Liga to report PSG over FFP

La Liga has confirmed that it will report Paris Saint-Germain to UEFA for violating Financial Fair Play.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo on Friday, President Javier Tebas denied the complaint was being made due to PSG’s pursuit of Barcelona star Neymar but did confess talk of the French club possibly activating the forward’s €222m release clause “worried” him.

“We’ll do so because [PSG’s actions] violate the rules of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play and the competition rules of the European Union,” he told the newspaper.

“We’ll report them to UEFA and if [UEFA] ignores it, we’ll take it to Swiss competition courts and Brussels, and we won’t rule out the courts in France and Spain. We’re going to present [our complaint] immediately.

“Because of Neymar? No, it’s because of everything that’s come out in the media and because we planned it already.

“If we didn’t do it earlier then it’s because I wanted to raise the problem with UEFA first and so I told President Ceferin, but he didn’t have time [to process it].

“What I’ve read worries me. and La Liga can’t just stand and watch.

“It’s not a Barca issue, it’s an issue for Spanish football. Today it’s Barca, but tomorrow it could be Real Madrid, Atletico or another club, although Barca haven’t said anything about it to us.

“Around two months ago, I invited the President of PSG to La Liga’s offices and told him what we were going to do and the reasons why.

“He was angry with me and told me he didn’t understand. We have a relationship because we mustn’t forget that they manage our television rights, but La Liga must also defend its clubs in these situations.”
