Zinedine Zidane insists that while “it’s not a good time” for Real Madrid after three International Champions Cup defeats, “I’m happy with this squad.”
Madrid lost 3-2 to Barcelona in the final game of their ICC campaign, while the likes of Danilo and Alvaro Morata have left Los Blancos, who in turn have only signed youngsters Theo Hernandez and Dani Ceballos.
“We started the game very badly, conceding two goals in 6-7 minutes,” the Coach said after the Clasico friendly on Sunday morning.
“This means that we lacked concentration. We can’t be thinking about anything else. After that, we got better in the game.
“We had some good moments, but overall we can’t say it was a good game for us.
“We tried to play and do things well, we went to play them, but there were two faces to this performance.
“”We started badly and then we got into the game but we still lost the ball too easily. That’s not our usual game.
“This is preseason and the results of our three matches weren’t as we expected, but the important thing for us is August 8.
“I saw good things but also negative things. What we have to do is be patient and work hard.
“Signings? It’s the same question as 10 days ago. You [reporters] always ask me the same thing and I always say the same thing to you.
“I’m here to work with what I have. For now, we’re the way we are and I’m happy with this squad.
“This defeat doesn’t really matter to me. [Losing a Clasico] always hurts, but it’s not important right now.
“We’re working and I wouldn’t change anything. It was very nice for all the fans that came.
“It’s a bit worse for the losers, but I wouldn’t change anything, I’d take losing this friendly and winning everything!
“Super Cup? I’m not afraid of it. We’ve worked very well so far. We’ve carried out our preparations and what the team needed in order to be prepared.
“We’ll go to Chicago for our last game and then we’ll come back to play on August 8.
“I wouldn’t change anything. Some good things have been seen and you can’t be pessimistic.
“Of course, the result is what counts and, at the moment, it’s not the best time for us.
“The support of the fans was perfect, I give them a 10. Our work on physical and team levels has been good.
“After that, fine margins matter in football and when I watch our matches back, I look at what we struggled in.
“I’ll watch this game back to see [what we struggled in]. The important thing is to be fine on August 8.”
