Barcelona have ruled out the prospect of selling Sergi Roberto to Manchester United this summer and do not fear losing him, according to reports.
Reports from Spain have claimed that Man United have launched a £40m bid for the 25-year-old – matching his release clause.
The 25-year-old, who enjoyed a superb campaign at the Nou Camp last year, making 47 appearances in total, has attracted attention from Chelsea as well.
And according to ESPN’s Sam Marsden, Barcelona have no intentions of letting the Spaniard leave this summer.
Nobody can blame the Catalans for wanting to keep Roberto close. The 25-year-old has, over the last year, developed into one of Europe’s finest factotums, featuring primarily at right back whilst also producing creative, composed displays in defensive midfield and out wide.
He is the ultimate utility player and, as somebody who developed at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, will want to remain at his boyhood club if he can.
That said, with new signing Nelson Semedo likely to occupy the right back slot, alongside potential arrivals Paulinho and Coutinho filling the midfield, he may feel as if a regular place in the starting XI may be harder to come by and contemplate a late move elsewhere.
