Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admitted ‘it’s game over’ in his club’s pursuit of Real Madrid winger after Tuesday’s Super Cup clash.
The Welsh forward started for Los Blancos after speculation he could miss out due to the emergence of Marco Asensio, with Cristiano Ronaldo instead starting from the bench due to lack of a pre-season.
“Clearly the club wants him, the manager wants him and he wants the club, so for me it’s game over,” Mourinho told BT Sport after the match.
“Even before it started, but it’s game over clearly because everybody knows he is going to stay.”
Madrid president Florentino Perez also confirmed on Tuesday that he ‘had no intention’ of selling the former Tottenham star.
