Three changes Real Madrid could make for El Clásico against Barcelona next Sunday

Real Madrid managed to win the UEFA Supercup against Manchester United and coach Zinedine Zidane might need to make some changes if he wants to have his players fresh for the demanding match against Barcelona on Sunday. Furthermore, Los Blancos will host Barça again just three days after the first leg, so they’ll have to be ready.

Here are three changes Zidane could consider.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo starting the game. It’s clear that he played last night to get ready for the upcoming matches against Barcelona. Ronaldo was able to play almost 20 minutes so he should be fit enough to feature against Barcelona with a whole week of training under his belt. If that happens, either Bale or Isco would be dropped to the bench.
2. Modric won’t be available, so Kovacic might start. The young Croatian midfielder completed a brilliant pre-season and yet didn’t play against Manchester United. It’s time for Zidane to reward the work he put on this summer and give him starting minutes against Barcelona.
3. Minutes for Llorente? It won’t be easy to bench Casemiro after his spectacular performance in the UEFA Supercup. However, the Brazilian midfielder ran all game long and Zidane will need a fresh defensive midfielder to prevent Barcelona from dominating the tempo of the game. It’s time for Llorente to shine.
