Gareth Bale believes Jose Mourinho is close to taking Manchester United back to winning ways.

The Portuguese boss claimed he wanted to sign Bale earlier in the week before the Super Cup final, however, realised it would be a tough decision as he’s clearly wanted by Real.

His future at the Bernabeu has been in doubt as it’s been discussed by Zinedine Zidane but he started in Macedonia as he looks to get ready for a fifth season in Spain.

Speaking about the situation, Bale believes United are emerging as a threat again.

“I think it’s getting there, obviously I think by bringing Mourinho in, it’s kind of boosted the club,” he said.

“Winning a few trophies last year did them great, and I think they’re getting back to where they belong.

“I see no reason why they can’t challenge, he’s a great manager, he’s done everything in football, he knows what he’s doing and I’m sure he’s building a great team for what he hopes to achieve there.

“They did very well, they gave us a difficult game, and I’m sure they’ll do fantastic this season.”

Real president Florentino Perez rubbished any suggestions of Bale departing this and it’s clear they’re looking to keep hold of him.

Although speculation has spiralled over his future, it seems Bale is set on cementing his place in the side, especially after last season.
