Leonardo Bonucci revealed his pre-match captain’s speech to Milan teammates and warned “we need to improve” after a 6-0 win over Shkendija.

The last time the Rossoneri scored six goals in a European game was in October 1993 against Copenhagen.

“It was a wonderful sensation, especially in the opening minutes,” Bonucci told Mediaset of his competitive Milan debut at San Siro.

“It was hard to break the ice, but the team did really well, we got a victory that puts us on the right track. We need to improve out of possession, but we’re on the right track.

“We take the good things, but also what needs improving and the negative elements of the match.”

Bonucci has just arrived from Juventus, but is already the captain and leader, getting the players into a huddle before kick-off to make a stirring speech.

“I tried to tell the team that there is no easy game, in every one you step on to the field to earn the victory. They already knew that, so I didn’t tell them anything new.

“It’ll take a lot of work before we can reach Juve’s level.”
