Morata: It’s not easy to beat them

Alvaro Morata insists Spain’s 3-0 victory over Italy “looked easier than it was” and fully expected to be on the bench.

The former Juventus and Real Madrid striker came on in the second half to add the third goal after an Isco brace.

“It looked easier than it was, it’s certainly not easy to beat Italy, especially like this. We had a great game and thank the fans at the Bernabeu who backed us all the way,” Morata told Rai Sport.

The Spaniards adopted a False 9 formation initially with Isco, Marco Asensio and David Silva in attack.

“I expected to be on the bench and knew we would play like this, as the last time we beat Italy, it was with a similar system, so I was mentally prepared to come on in the second half.”

Morata scored the final goal past his former Juve teammate Gigi Buffon.

“I really love Gigi and I want him to be happy. I’d never managed to score against him, but from now on I hope everything goes his way.”
