Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo stopped Angel Di Maria from joining FC Barcelona in this summer’s transfer window according to reports in Spain.
Barcelona tried to sign the pacy Argentinian on the transfer deadline day but they were priced out of the move by Paris Saint-Germain. The Catalan giants endured a difficult transfer window as they missed out on many of their first choice transfers this season.
And now, Spanish outlet Don Balon via Express claims that Angel Di Maria did not join Barcelona because Cristiano Ronaldo told his ex-Real Madrid teammate to snub a move to Catalonia.
The report claims that Ronaldo sent repeated text messages to Di Maria convincing him to ignore a move to Barcelona as the Portuguese felt that the Argentinian’s arrival will make Barcelona very strong for the season ahead.
Initial reports claimed that PSG rejected Barcelona’s last gasp bid as soon as it arrived but doubts remains over an “influenced” Di Maria, who himself was behind the rejected offer, after all.
