Fiorentina and Italy prospect Simone Lo Faso has revealed that Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is his “point of reference”.
Speaking at his official unveiling on Wednesday, Lo Faso explained the reasons behind his move to Fiorentina from Palermo on loan with an option to buy, as well as why he looked to emulate Ronaldo.
“This is a key step for my career,” began the teenage forward.
“Fiorentina are a great club, I’m ambitious and I love challenges: that’s why I decided to accept this challenge.
“I want to thank Palermo, they did so much for me in 11 years. Thanks to them, I debuted in the national team and Serie A.
“My position and characteristics? I can play anywhere in [Fiorentina’s] system. I’m at the Coach’s full disposal, but I like to play in the final third and on the wings.
“Competition? I’m ready, I feel good. I signed up to this project because the players are young here.
“It’s important that a team like Fiorentina have decided to go with youth. I’ll always do my best to make myself ready.
“There’s pressure, but that’s the beautiful thing about football. My idol? I like Cristiano Ronaldo’s game with and without the ball.
“He always likes to get involved, attack and score goals. He’s a point of reference for me.
“I’ve always wanted to play in Serie A, now I’ll always give my best. I want to grow and do my bit when I’m selected. We’re aiming to do well, Fiorentina are used to being near the top.
“Offers? There was talk at the start of preseason. Other Italian clubs and Monaco had asked for me.
“When I heard about Fiorentina, I said ‘yes’ right away. How do you reject Fiorentina?
“This is a passionate club. Football equates to life in Florence and the air here is similar to what is in the South. Everything’s beautiful here.
“I’ve already had my first training season and the complex is fantastic. Today will be my second day dressed in Viola.”
