Real Madrid hoping to sign Antoine Griezmann in the near future

Real Madrid are looking to sign Atletico Madrid talisman, claims the Express, with the Spanish giants looking to reinforce their attack either in January or in the summer.

The European champions only have Borja Mayoral as their substitute striker, who is far down the pecking order. Karim Benzema’s recent injury has made Real look a lost in the striking department, as there is no out-and-out number nine except the Spaniard.

Zinedine Zidane, too, supported this statement, last week, in a press conference, saying that “when you see that now we only have [Borja] Mayoral that you might think we lack a No 9.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is more than a capable forward and could fill in as a striker, whenever necessary. But at 32, it’s time Real start looking for alternatives, and Griezmann most certainly fits the profile.

The Frenchman, without doubt, would be a great fit at the Bernabeu. He is young, reliable, and is a great finisher. He’s also a star and knows how to work a crowd. Griezmann has a £88 million release clause which wouldn’t be too big an amount for a club of Real’s stature. V

Varane, Benzema and coach Zinedine Zidane’s presence in the dressing room could very well work in favour of Los Blancos.

“Griezmann had a €100m clause, raised to €200m this summer and has now dropped back to €100m,” Inda told.

“Madrid believes that he would be an excellent alternative to Cristiano Ronaldo, who is not eternal. Griezmann is 22, 23 years old and Cristiano is 32, and Benzema is going to turn 30 in December.”

Looking at the rivalry the clubs share, the move looks rather unrealistic. But after Figo’s move to Barcelona, nothing should come as a surprise.
