Simeone: Morata a great player

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone refused to talk about Diego Costa but believes Alvaro Morata will show he is a ‘great player’ at Chelsea.

Los Rojiblancos host the English champions in the first ever European clash at their new Wanda Metropolitano stadium on Wednesday night.

“I’ll not talk about Costa because he doesn’t play for Chelsea any more but I’ll talk about Morata,” Simeone told his pre-match press conference.

“He (Morata) is a very important player of course, he has very good movement inside the box, knows how to keep the ball and play with his back to goal.

“He’ll perform very well at Chelsea and show that he is a great player.

“I believe Chelsea now are very different to the team from the 2014 semi-finals – they’re intense, have a good balance, work extremely hard on defending with all the players knowing their jobs.

“They are a tough tough who have a top manager who has driven his mentality onto the side.

“A similarity with Atletico? Yes, but it is not that Conte’s way of playing reflects that of our team, he’s been playing like that for years – he managed Siena and Juventus in a similar fashion.”
