Marco Materazzi admits he was cheering on Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid in the Champions League Final. “I can’t support Juventus.”
The former Inter defender was famously head-butted by Zidane in the 2006 World Cup Final, but evidently holds more ill-will towards the Bianconeri.
“I was cheering on Zidane in Cardiff,” Matrix told La Gazzetta dello Sport after the 4-1 Real Madrid victory.
“I just can’t support Juventus, even if I’d have applauded them if they had deserved to win.
“I do like Zizou and have nothing against him. In fact, I use this opportunity to congratulate him, because he had the intelligence to press the right buttons and create that empathy between champions that is the key to Madrid’s success.
“We’re grown-ups now, I’d have no problem making peace with Zizou. We never spoke after that incident, I am not chasing him down or anything, but if the occasion should present itself, I am ready. Of course, you’d have to ask him…”
