Barca’s No 1 target is Ajax youngster

Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has reportedly emerged as Barcelona’s top transfer target for January.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are still working on bringing in a centre-back, as requested over the summer by Coach Ernesto Valverde.

Although Yerry Mina is expected to arrive from Palmeiras in the winter, the newspaper claims the Blaugrana are weighing up De Ligt, who is already a Netherlands international, despite being only 18 years of age, and has potential “unparalleled by other defenders his age.”

MD adds Barca are also looking at French teenager Dayot Upamecano, who plays for RB Leipzig, although he would not come in cheap, given his side are in the Champions League and do not need the money.
