Luke Shaw reacted to his omission from Manchester United ‘s squad against Tottenham by hitting the gym as he aims to prove his fitness to Jose Mourinho.
The United defender was a late sub in the Carabao Cup against Swansea in midweek, but did not make the 20 man squad that spent the night at the Lowry Hotel ahead of the Spurs fixture.
Mourinho was asked about Shaw ‘s future at United at the pre-match press conference after the left back’s glowing comments about former manager Mauricio Pochettino emerged.
The United manager explained: “He has a future here but the situation is not easy because he comes from injury after injury after injury he needs two, three, four, five or six matches in a row to play, to make mistakes, to get condition, to get match fitness and I cannot give him that. If he was a central midfielder then yes, because we only have two but at left back we have so many options.
Manchester United have a solution to Luke Shaw problem
“So the situation is not easy. But he is in the squad, he works and maybe the opportunity comes.”
And Shaw has responded positively by posting a video of himself in the gym on a Saturday night, when most of his teammates were out celebrating.
The 22-year-old Shaw has played just two senior games for United this season, but has turned out four times for Ricky Sbragia’s reserve side.
