Manchester United told they have to pay £85m to sign this Real Madrid superstar

Real Madrid are willing to offload Gareth Bale next summer and have told Manchester United they will have to shell out £85m to secure his services, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho publicly expressed his interest in Bale over the summer amid reports Zinedine Zidane was planning to sell him but later conceded that he wouldn’t pursue the Welshman after he started in the UEFA Super Cup back in August.

But talk surrounding a potential move away for Bale has refused to die down, with the club growing in frustration at his seemingly endless streak of injuries.

And according to the Mirror‘s John Richardson, the Spanish champions are willing to offload the winger for £85m – the amount it cost them to buy him in 2013 – at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Florentino Perez would ideally want to sell Bale for a lot more, of course, but the 28-year-old’s injury record and age will mean United could pay a comparatively reasonable figure for a man who, on his day, can grab any game by the jugular and pull it in his direction.

And the Real president has reason to let Bale go without much of a fuss. Marco Asensio, for one, is emerging as an indispensable figure under Zidane and the club’s board, following an uninspiring start to the campaign, may have already started to line up a big name for next summer.

Supporters will hope that they can serve as the main beneficiaries of this latest episode of ruthless evolution at the Bernabeu.
