Barcelona have agreed a deal in principle to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, according to reports in Spain.
The French international has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United but it appears the Red Devils have fallen behind in the race for his signature.
Despite intense summer speculation, Griezmann opted to stay in the Spanish capital in favour of a move to the Premier League after Atletico’s transfer ban was upheld.
Griezmann also agreed a new contract which more than doubled his release clause – for the January transfer window – to £175million.
But with the 26-year-old’s release clause lowering to £87million on 1, July 2018, Barcelona have opened talks ahead of a potential mega summer transfer.
The news will come as a blow to Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, who identified Griezmann as a key acquisition ahead of further investment next summer.
