Paris Saint-Germain have all but signed Brazilian wonderkid Wendel, as they look to be adding one of the brightest young stars in South America, according to a report out of Brazil.

The 20-year-old midfielder has raised his stock significantly while with Fluminense. Now, he’s the center of €10 million transfer to the French capital. The move will occur in January, and he’ll be tied to the Parc des Princes for five years.

According to ESPN FC, the Ligue 1 club initially planned to loan Wendel out to gain experience with the goal that he would ultimately succeed Thiago Motta’s deep-lying midfield role for PSG for the foreseeable future.

However, Motta’s lingering knee injury and imminent surgery for “arthroscopic cleaning,” as well as a depleated midfield in Unai Emery’s squad, may mean that Wendel is needed at PSG sooner than expected.

While PSG have been interested in Wendel for some time, Ajax were also reportedly keen to acquire his services.
