Mbappe arrives at the Bernabeu, confirmed as the star Real Madrid wanted to sign

Any lingering doubts that Real Madrid had about Kylian Mbappe have surely been dispelled by the French forward’s strong form at Paris Saint-Germain, who he will now represent on Wednesday night at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Les Parisiens heading straight to the arena after landing in Madrid airport on Tuesday night allowed Mbappe the chance to contemplate life in the Spanish capital, one which was offered to him in the summer before staying in France with PSG. Indeed, he could easily have been playing in this match in a white shirt.

With 15 goals and 14 assists in 31 appearances, the 19-year-old is certain that he made the right choice and can continue to prove that he is one of football’s future icons when facing Los Blancos.

It is in the big games that such heroes are measured by and, if Mbappe is to become one, the last-16 first leg is an excellent place to continue on that path.

Speaking to MARCA ahead of the game, he brushed aside talk of his potential move to Real as well as how he idolised Cristiano Ronaldo as a boy.

“I admired [Ronaldo] when I was younger, but that ended,” said Mbappe in December.

“PSG are the team of my city. I wanted to play for PSG and I am very happy right now about how things are going.”
