Sergio Ramos insists he always had faith Real Madrid could recover despite going a goal down to Paris Saint-Germain.

Adrian Rabiot opened the scoring for the Ligue 1 side but Madrid hit back with three goals of their own, including a Cristia no Ronaldo brace, to take the advantage in the Champions League Round of 16 tie.

“It’s an important victory. These Champions League days are for the memory and what better way to do it than with this personality and this victory that’ll be important for the return. We were a serious team, we did a great job and the result is fair,” the Madrid captain said post-match, according to AS.

“We had the maximum concentration, we had the effectiveness in front of goal we’ve lacked in other games. ‘Chapeau’ for the work of the team.

“There’s no time to regret anything. Despite their goal we continued to look for victory with a lot of personality and a lot of seriousness. Madrid can’t be considered dead.

“We have to respect PSG. We’ve taken a very important step but the tie is open.”

Ramos was asked about defending against a PSG forward line of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani, and if he felt fortunate not to have conceded a penalty when Rabiot’s powerful drive appeared to come off his arm.

“It hit me in the chest and the hand. I’d have to see it,” he acknowledged, before turning to PSG’s attacking threat.

“You need more help against players that fast. We had balance, which was a big part of the game.”
