Both Costa and Conte have their ‘true’ vision of the situation
The striker and the head coach enjoyed a prolific camgaign last term that saw them lift the trophy at the end.

However, a text message from Conte ahead of pre-season clearly stated the Spaniard was no longer needed. While Antonio Conte repeatedly claimed everyone at the club knew he was right, Diego Costa has his take on the situation.

He says: It is very clear that it was not my fault that I was in Brazil [Costa refused to return to London]. We all know what happened there but I’m back now and I want to do my best.

”The Spain coach Julen Lopetegui was always very clear with me that if I was not playing then it would be impossible to be called up. But he also said that if I was playing well then the door would be open to me and I’m grateful to him for that.’

Diego Costa has scored 6 goals and made 4 assists in 14 games since his return to Atletico. This form has seen him receive call-up at the expense of Alvaro Morata.
