Benzema or Bale? Who should start the match against Juventus

Although he hasn’t said it openly, there’s no doubt that Zinedine Zidane knows his Real Madrid line-up for Tuesday night in Turin.

What happened against Las Palmas on Saturday in their 3-0 victory will not have influenced his decision.

Karim Benzema has scored many goals since joining Real Madrid but has been wasteful this season and that won’t create a major headache for Zidane.

The fact that he only managed a penalty against a disappointing Las Palmas side wasn’t too important given that Los Blancos won comfortably in the end.

But to fail to make the most of chances on Tuesday against the Bianconeri would be very damaging for a Real Madrid that aren’t getting tired of continually turning the other cheek.

Having doubts between Benzema and Gareth Bale is a mortal sin, particularly when you are talking about playing away from home.

Benzema, who has two goals from the penalty spot in his last eight games, is often trusted in such in big games.

Bale, on the other hand, has been somewhat inconsistent lately but seems to be hitting top gear again.

Las Palmas obviously were not at the races whatsoever, but in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale put the team on his back and carried them.

That is a scenario which is unthinkable in the case of the Frenchman.

One of the other interesting talking points from the weekend win were the two penalties in favour of Los Blancos, the first Gonzalez Fuertes had awarded them in LaLiga, after one against Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey.

The ease with which he awarded them was a surprise, but they are for the statistics and nothing more.

And yet the statistics will never show the ones which weren’t awarded when they were really needed, and which cost Real valuable points.
