Fans have accused Cristiano Ronaldo of being ‘Harry Kane 2.0′ after he claimed Real Madrid’s late equaliser against Athletic Bilbao.
Ronaldo flicked in Luka Modric’s 88th-minute shot to snatch a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.
It was only the slightest touch, but it was enough for the Portuguese superstar to claim the goal – and the adulation of his team mates and the Real fans.
Those on social media were less kind however, comparing Ronaldo’s celebration to Harry Kane being awarded Tottenham’s second goal against Stoke City.
Kane made only the faintest touch on Christian Eriksen’s free kick in Spurs’ 2-1 victory, however he claimed the goal and was awarded the strike by the dubious goals panel four days after the game following an appeal.
Supporters on Twitter believe Ronaldo must have taken a leaf out of Kane’s book, resurrecting the mockery that greeted the England forward and sending it the Real man’s way.
Regardless, the goal counts as Ronaldo’s 42nd in all competitions this season, keeping him two ahead of Mo Salah in the race for the European Golden Boot.
Salah meanwhile leads Kane in the race to be Premier League top scorer – part of the reason the Spurs striker was so keen to be awarded the Stoke goal.
Real meanwhile trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by 15 points after the draw, as they concentrate ion winning a third consecutive Champions League.
