Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels has said that the pain of losing the Champions League semi-finals against Real Madrid will live with him in the next 10 years.
Bayern was eliminated from Real Madrid after the 2-2 draw in the Spanish capital after the first lost match 2-1 in Bavaria.
Hummels thinks Jupp Heynckes’s team did enough to go to the Champions League final this time, a view that has agreed with former Bayern midfielder and his team-mate in Germany’s national team, Toni Kroos.
“We deserved it. Tony told me after the match: ‘We did not win the challenge. You just have to blame yourself for not being in the final. ” Unfortunately, Tony is right, “Hummels told reporters.
“I think this is even more disappointing than [in 2017] because during the match we were very close to eliminating one of the best teams in the world, which is rare,” he added.
“But, Real wins some of these matches every time this year. These games are things to remember in your career. But sincerly, I think it will hurt me even after 10 years, “he added.
