Real Madrid legend Raul and ex-Paris Saint-Germain striker Pauleta were named by Hugo Lloris as his toughest opponents.

World Cup winner Lloris highlighted Raul’s intelligence and finishing ability, while also namechecking Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lloris missed France’s UEFA Nations League double-header against Germany and Holland through injury, but returned to France for their World Cup celebrations.

‘It’s hard to pick one,’ said Lloris on RMC Sport, as per Sport Witness.

‘A player like Raul, I played him when he was at Real Madrid and Schalke, he always had that quick glance on the goalkeeper, on where he was positioned and he shot depending on that.

‘After that, there’s the Suarezs, the Messis, I don’t need to present them.

‘Back in the day, there was also Pauleta at Paris Saint-Germain. I played him a lot when I was at Nice.’

Raul graduated from Real Madrid’s youth academy and went on to score 323 goals across 16 years with the senior side.

He was the club’s record goalscorer until being overtaken by Ronaldo, who left the Bernabeu this summer on 450 goals.

However, despite his prolific record, Raul never actually managed to score past Lloris.

The keeper also offered a promising injury update, suggesting he may be fit to return for Tottenham at home to Liverpool on Saturday.

Lloris said: ‘Do I have a return date? Not yet. We’re working hard to come back strong and as quickly as possible.

‘There’s perhaps a chance for this weekend, but we’ll see depending on how things go this week.’
