With the continued absence of Dani Carvajal, Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui has a dilemma at right back and will need to choose between Alvaro Odriozola and Nacho for the visit to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Wednesday night.
Carvajal was not in the squad to face Espanyol on Saturday because of a muscle injury and he will also miss out against Sevilla.
Whilst it’s not a serious injury neither the player nor coach want to take any risks.
Lopetegui now has two options at right back for what is notoriously a tough match: he can give more pitch time to Alvaro Odriozola who enjoyed a great debut against Espanyol, or opt for Nacho who has been so reliable for Lopetegui and Zinedine Zidane before.
Against Espanyol, the Spaniard played at left back to give Marcelo a rest but he is equally adept on the right.
Nacho would offer more experience for such a tricky fixture, although Odriozola demonstrated at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu that, although he is yet to play many minutes, he could be a very valid option against Sevilla.
Lopetegui will once again make changes to his team with Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale likely to return having neither played a minute on Saturday.
Karim Benzema may well be rested ahead of the weekend’s derby with arch rivals Atletico Madrid.
