Bale went off with fatigue… but not before taking a freekick

Vinicius Junior came on for Gareth Bale in the 80th minute of Real Madrid’s 1-0 loss at Alaves, with the Welshman suffering fatigue and needing to be replaced.

He had suffered discomfort during the last LaLiga Santander match at home to Atletico Madrid and was replaced at half time of that derby, before being rested for the midweek trip to CSKA Moscow.

Against Alaves, the forward was deemed fit enough to start, but felt further discomfort not long after the 70-minute mark.

He was spotted feeling his thigh and he didn’t move much for a few minutes, but, just as he was about to be substituted, his side won a freekick and he stayed on to take it, eventually coming off after the failed attempt.

Despite this episode, Bale is still expected to join up with the Wales squad this week and to take on Spain on Thursday night.
