“It would be better for Real Madrid to sign Mbappe than Neymar”

Few players are as well remembered by Real Madrid as Steve McManaman, as he knows what it takes to succeed at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

As well as scoring one of the most historic goals in the club’s history, he scored 14 in total and became the first Englishman to win the Champions League with a non-British club.

Now a LaLiga Ambassador and a pundit, he remains knowledgeable about Los Blancos and would like if they signed Kylian Mbappe.

“Of course it’s possible, everything is possible right now,” he speculated when asked by MARCA if he could envisage one of Neymar or Mbappe in white.

“I didn’t think that they would pay so much for Mbappe, but I didn’t think that Cristiano [Ronaldo] would leave Real Madrid either, but he has.

“Which would I prefer to play for Real Madrid right now? Mbappe.

“He’s younger, he’s 19-years-old and I think that’s why you can teach him more, he would be easier to bring.”

After the recent visit of the Parisians to Anfield, he knows all about their key men.

“In the game at Anfield, Liverpool were much better,” McManaman stated.

“PSG disappointed me massively, they didn’t run back when they lost the ball, they were a team of individuals and they didn’t play well.

“I want to see how they play in Paris because, of course, in Ligue 1 they win every game easily with no problem, but when they have to play against Liverpool or Napoli they have to work much harder.

“Mbappe, Neymar, [Edinson] Cavani… they are marvellous players, but they have to work more.”

Fifteen years after he left the Bernabeu himself, he remains linked with Spanish football and was present alongside former teammate Fernando Morientes and ex-rivals Xavi, Samuel Eto’o and Carles Puyol at an event for LaLiga.
