1. Marcelo
Scored, broke the drought and was Real Madrid’s best player, because he returned to his best attacking level. He gave everything.
2. Benzema
Affected the game. He played on the left, stood up to the challenge, assisted Marcelo and hit the post. At least he tried.
3. Casemiro
Swept up when Levante tried to kill the game on the counter-attack. Cut out two very dangerous passes from Morales.
4. Ceballos
Tried to take the game by the scruff of the neck and shot from the edge of the box, although it was somewhat wayward.
5/ Odriozola
Lasted 45 minutes. Didn’t do anything dreadful, but when he went off things got better…
6. Mariano
Was given his chance and didn’t take it. Although he tried, he lacked the killer instinct which is strange for him.
7. Isco
Returning from injury, he was good in the first half but was very tried after the break. Ended up getting substituted.
8. Bale
He encouraged the Bernabeu crowd, and tried his best to change the game for Madrid, although he didn’t have much involvement.
9. Lopetegui
On the tightrope. His changes may have helped, but he’s running out of time.
10. Varane
Terrible. Messed up for the first goal, unable to deal with a long ball. Put his hand out when he shouldn’t have for the penalty.
11. Lucas
Dreadful. Didn’t contribute in attack nor did he know how to defend when he needed to. Made unnecessary fouls and his crosses went to no-one.
12.Ramos
Morales had him for breakfast, lunch and dinner, although it was his central defensive partner who influenced the result.
13.Courtois
Couldn’t stop Morales for the first goal and got a hand to Roger’s penalty. He wasn’t to blame but he perhaps could have done better.
14.Modric
Subdued. Despite starting well, the goals came, the team had to run and the game passed him by.
15.Asensio
Another missed opportunity. He started eagerly but in a match that lacked any killer instinct, he should have assumed responsibility and taken the glory.
