Following the crushing 5-1 defeat to Barcelona, Julen Lopetegui knows that his time at Real Madrid is almost up and that result will cost him his job.

As a result, in the post match briefing, the Basque said goodbye to his players… just in case.

The hours are counting down and Lopetegui knows that he might not see the players again, despite training arranged for Monday before the Copa del Rey match in Melilla on Wednesday.

Should that happen, then Santiago Solari will take charge of training and possibly the game, given that Antonio Conte will not arrive on the bench in time.

Thus, Lopetegui addressed the Madrid players, wishing them well, and showing his appreciation of the four-and-a-half months they have worked together.

But as his dismissal isn’t official, he finished with a ‘just in case’, before the return flight to Madrid.
