Pique: Griezmann is a great footballer

Barcelona achieved a fantastic result against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday, largely due to the composed brilliance of Gerard Pique, yet the Spanish defender has made clear that despite Antoine Griezmann’s ability, a move to the Camp Nou isn’t his decision.

Despite their improved performance in this season’s Champions League, the Catalan club are looking at ways they can improve for the 2018/19 campaign.

“Griezmann is a great footballer, but it’s not my decision to m ake,” Pique explained at a press conference unveiling Andorra’s new sponsor, Morabanc.

“Any signing that comes will simply serve to add more to the squad. ”

Diego Costa’s eight-match ban has been the talk of Spanish football for much of the week, yet the Barcelona defender refused to give a judgement either way on the issue, especially given his own checkered past with officials.

“They banned me for four games for saying the same thing,” Pique admitted.

“Although, it seems as though he also grabbed the referee’s arm.”

Andorra’s future under the stewardship of Pique’s Kosmos company is likely to be a bright one, and with the club having agreed a 10-year sponsorship agreement with Morabanc, the veteran defender wasn’t shy in laying down his ambition for the team.

“I’m ambitious, the Champions League anthem has to play in Andorra,” he confirmed.

“Although, we have to go step-by-step.

“For Kosmos, this is a special project because it represents an entire country.”
