Mbappe sends Golden Shoe message to Messi

With Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi currently leading the way in the European Golden Shoe standing, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has sent a message to the Argentine.

With a single Ligue 1 game remaining, Mbappe is on 32 league goals for the campaign, while the Blaugrana captain has struck 36 times in the 2018/19 LaLiga season, which came to a close on Sunday.

Despite Messi scoring a brace to open up a four-goal gap on Mbappe in the race for this campaign’s Golden Shoe, the 20-year-old has insisted he is not giving up on his target.

“I’m aiming for the Golden Shoe this year,” he said at the Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionnels awards.

“This afternoon I took a break in my nap to see Messi’s match – after his two goals I went back to bed!

“I still have 90 minutes, I have nothing to lose!”

Mbappe would have to score four times against Reims this coming Friday to draw level with Messi on 36 league goals, while five strikes would secure him the accolade, one the Argentine has won a record five times.
