Ferland Mendy looks set to join Real Madrid this summer. The Frenchman could even undergo his medicals on Sunday with the France national team having a free day, and he’ll move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for 50 million euros.

But his arrival opens questions, primarily surrounding Marcelo. The Brazilian is going to play a secondary role next season and even under Zinedine Zidane, he’ll be playing the part of backup behind the incoming Mendy.

The club are happy to put the ball in Marcelo’s court regarding his future, and the Brazilian can decide whether he wants to stay and fight for whatever minutes come his way, or if he wants to move on in search of a more prominent role elsewhere.

While his decision is being awaited, Sergio Reguilon’s future also remains in the balance. The youngster has expressed his desire to stay in Madrid, but the Brazilian’s decision will have an impact on that.

Juventus could be worth watching. Cristiano Ronaldo’s current side are searching for a left back this summer, and Marcelo has a very close relationship with the Portuguese.

But at Madrid, Mendy is seen as a done deal. On top of his arrival, Achraf Hakimi has one more year on his loan deal at Borussia Dortmund, after which he will likely return to the Bernabeu and compete with Mendy.

It’s easy to forget Theo Hernandez too, who could stay on Madrid’s books and provide yet more competition.
