The situation of Neymar gives Real Madrid chance to sign the Brazilian

Whilst Barcelona and the Camp Nou are experiencing an institutional crisis that few anticipated, and fans are awaiting news about the possible return of Neymar, Paris Saint-Germain and their leaders have been clear about the Brazilian returning to his former club. So much so that Nasser Al-Khelaifi has offered Real Madrid the chance to sign him on two occasions. The proposal, though, is too late and for the moment the leaders of Los Blancos aren’t contemplating this option. Months ago things would have been very different, but the reality now is that the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is indifferent towards the prospect.

PSG don’t see Neymar’s return to the Camp Nou as feasible. The relationship between the two club isn’t good, stemming back to the tension created in 2017 by the Blaugrana’s attempt to sign Marco Verratti.

What happened two summers ago hasn’t been forgotten and the lines of dialogue between the teams aren’t fluid at all. PSG counter-attacked with a huge offer for Ivan Rakitic which made Los Cules raise his contract significantly, whilst the Catalan side’s pursuit of Adrien Rabiot did little to improve things.

Leonardo’s return as sporting director at the Parisian club has softened the dialogue between all parties somewhat, but the reality is that the differences are still prominent. If it was down to the PSG leaders, Neymar would never return to Barcelona, although they are aware the Brazilian has to leave and at the present moment his only destination seems to be Catalonia. In Paris they are analysing the market, everything that they could perhaps offer, as well as requesting Philippe Coutinho to be part of their plans, but the truth is they don’t have any real desire to do business with Barcelona.

Real Madrid weren’t surprised by the offer PSG made them; they believe it to be part of the football business, but at this moment they aren’t considering incorporating a player they have long waited to become available. If there is a position with an excess of candidates in the squad then it is in attack, and their intention is to lose some players, especially Gareth Bale. Once the Welshman leaves then this offer could be looked into, but at this time the doors of the Bernabeu are closed to Neymar.

If relations between the Blaugrana and the French champions aren’t good, then the exact opposite can be said with regards to Real Madrid and PSG. The dialogue between the two parties is regular and they consider each other to be amicable rivals. Los Blancos have been clear to tread carefully with regards to any possible move for PSG players, looking to avoid any kind of conflict with them.

Florentino Perez didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that it had been at the request of the Parisian club that Los Merengues had released a statement which denied any transfer moves for either Neymar or Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid have long insisted that if ever they are interested in a PSG player, the French club will be the first to know.

Neymar has long been linked to Real Madrid, for a period of over a decade. Ever since his first visit to the famous stadium in 2006, right through to the medical and contract that was never signed.

This offer opens a door that may seem closed to sporting interests, but they have nothing to do with emotions.

The fact that players have been coming to Madrid in a position that had been reserved for Neymar, the situation of the Brazilian where he is now in the shadow of Mbappe in Paris leaves Los Blancos with a very strong negotiating position in the future.
