Real Madrid make the necessary effort to reinforce midfield

Florentino Perez has already delivered a number of new signings this summer, with Zinedine Zidane desperate for the squad to be reshaped, yet there is still the prospect of the club making the necessary effort to reinforce the centre of midfield before the start of the campaign.

Whilst there hasn’t yet been a match in Real Madrid’s pre-season preparations in Canada, perhaps the most important 90 minutes of the trip have already taken place in the form of a meeting between the three powerbrokers at the club.

Within the walls of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Florentino himself convened with Zinedine Zidane and Jose Angel Sanchez for a 90-minute meeting to discuss just what still needs to be done in the transfer market.

Irrespective of his desire to sign his compatriot, Zidane has been made aware that a deal to sign Paul Pogba will be near impossible this summer, with Manchester United simply unwilling to sell their prized-asset.

Pogba remains the first choice for the French coach, but unless a miracle occurs he understands that the midfielder will not be wearing the white of Real Madrid in the 2019/20 season.

Los Blancos are of the belief that Pogba will do his best to try and move this summer, but they won’t encourage it, especially with Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek still attainable options.

All three leaders do agree over the need for midfield reinforcements however, with only Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Fede Valverde and Luka Modric as realistic options in this position.

Zidane doesn’t want James Rodriguez to stay and is for sale, whilst Dani Ceballos could still yet leave on loan to one of Arsenal or Tottenham.

Isco wants to stay but is aware the club will listen to offers for him, Zidane doesn’t consider him a pure central midfielder, hence why he is desperate for another signing.
