Arsenal hope to announce on Thursday the double signing of Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and Saint Etienne defender William Saliba – who will be loaned back to the French club for a year – in a major boost for the squad.

It is understood the deal for Ceballos will not be affected by Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio suffering a potentially serious injury against Arsenal in their friendly.

Both players are travelling to London to complete the deals with Arsenal having flown straight back after the final game of their US tour against Real Madrid.

Emery admitted after the game he did not know if it could affect the Ceballos deal but the club have received assurances it will not be an issue.

Emery added: “Really really our target in the match was not to take injuries and they have maybe a big injury with Asensio, it’s bad news for them and also for us [think he means we feel sorry for them].

“I don’t know if it can change something.”

However, Ceballos is set to join regardless of Asensio’s issue.

Saliba is also due to be announced in a £27million permanent transfer.

Arsenal have agreed to loan Saliba back to St Etienne for a season just to get the deal done and the France under-20s starlet is regarded as one of the best defensive prospects in Europe.
