Manchester United held lengthy negotiations with Juventus this summer – and it has now emerged they had defender Merih Demiral on their radar.

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici, who held lengthy sit-down talks with Ed Woodward at United’s London office a few days before deadline day, says Demiral was also a target.

The Turkish international, 21, only joined the Serie A giants from Sassuolo earlier this summer in a €18m move but the Red Devils enquired about his availability and were quoted a €40m price.

Paratici told Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calcio Mercato ): “He is our player who has had the most deals on the market, I don’t imagine how many.

“The Turk was requested by Milan but was also approached by Manchester United .”
